A fiery fatal crash shut down a portion of McGregor Blvd in Fort Myers early Monday morning.

The vehicle was so badly burned the make and model could not be determined at the scene. The vehicle came to a halt at the intersection of South Town & River Drive and McGregor Blvd after hitting an electrical pole.

The vehicle was standing upright with its front bumper lodged into the ground when emergency crews arrived.

Four In Your Corner's crew on the scene saw a body being removed from the wreckage shortly after 4:30 a.m.

A portion of McGregor Blvd between Cypress Lake Drive and A&W Bulb Rd were blocked off for several hours while crews investigated.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released.

Florida Power & Light (FPL) was still working to restore power to over 300 customers around 6:30 Monday morning. According to FPL Spokesperson Richard Gibbs as many as 1,400 customers were without power immediately following the crash.
