FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Police Department Community Outreach Against Child Hunger program organized community groups, businesses, private citizens, churches, and others to collect monetary donations and non-perishable foods, to supply meals to families in need.
The program is continuing to expand and over the summer FMPD Officers distributed over 500 bags of snacks and drinks to children in the community.
Many people donated over 100 polo shirts and 65 pairs of khaki shorts for students at Franklin Park Elementary between the ages of 5 and 11 in need of new school clothing.
Sergeant Jackie Garrett developed the program.
It has progressed beyond its original mission of providing dinners for needy families to assisting with other necessities that help children excel in school and everyday life.
