FORT MYERS, Fla. — Construction is set to begin today on Colonial Boulevard.

The I-75 at Colonial Boulevard Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project will include other improvements along Colonial Boulevard such as a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and a Superstreet intersection at the Colonial Boulevard/Forum Boulevard intersection.

I-75 will also be widened to provide an auxiliary lane in each direction from Colonial Boulevard to /Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (SR 82).

The off-ramps at Colonial Boulevard DDI and the northbound off-ramp at SR 82 will have emergency stopping sites.

The improvements will enhance access to I-75, and along Colonial Boulevard, as well as improve overall safety, increase capacity, and facilitate emergency evacuation within the County.

The improvements will help serve travel demands created by anticipated and existing countywide population and employment growth.

Lane closures are expected on I-75 and the on and off-ramps at Colonial Boulevard and SR 82 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) through the duration of the construction.

The expected completion date is mid-2024.
