NAPLES, Fla. — Collier County Commissioners will hold a town gathering Tuesday to address backyard gun ranges in Naples.
Right now, it's legal to fire a gun on private property, but only if you live on one acre or more.
Back in January, over 600 residents of Golden Gates Estates signed a petition to end backyard gun ranges, after several homes and one person inside a home were hit by stray bullets.
Collier County Commissioner, William McDaniel, said he's a firm believer in the second amendment, but this issue is a little different.
"The rational of one acre or more, provided for a gun owner or home owner, to build their own backyard shooting range, but with no minimum stipulations, it's become a safety issue," he said. "I would rather see a greater emphasis put on education and minimum standards with regard to the backyard shooting ranges."
The public is invited to ask questions and address concerns Tuesday night from 6 to 8 at the extension office located at 14700 Immokalee Road.
