FORT MYERS, Fla. — Flu season is officially here, and it could be a nasty one. The CDC is warning this could be one of the worst seasons on record.

Doctors said the best way to protect yourself and your family is by getting a flu shot.

Pharmacist T.J. DePaola has been very busy lately. That’s because many people are taking early precautions.

DePaola said he’s given 50 flu shots in just two days.

“People that got away with it last year, you’re on borrow time, it’s so easy to get exposed. You can get it at a grocery store, you can get it at a restaurant, anywhere you are in public," said DePaola.

Health experts said Australia just had a severe Flu season and usually that indicates what’s in store for us next.

“If it happens in another country, it’s very easy to get it over here, and it spreads very quickly," said DePaola.

DePaola said the best way to prevent influenza is by getting a flu shot and washing your hands.

According to the CDC, the flu can be dangerous and even deadly for children and older people.

To be on the safe side, the CDC recommends everyone six months and older to get vaccinated.

Children who are getting vaccinated for the first time will need to get two doses.

The Florida Department of Health said they expect flu activity to increase in the next few weeks, so now is the perfect time to get your flu shot.
