CAPE CORAL, Fla — The Cape Coral Police Department is accepting applications for its “Shop with a Cop” event.

The 18th annual event will take place Monday, December 21.

It allows officers to spend time with children of Cape Coral families who are struggling during difficult times.

The event will be a little different this year because of COVID-19.

Shoppers will need to be dropped off at the Super Walmart on Del Prado Blvd at 9 a.m. and picked up at 11 a.m.

Organizers say the child will be able to sign in, pick up a mask, and meet their officer.

The officer and the child will then enjoy a Christmas shopping experience and learn a little bit about each other.

The event is sponsored by The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #33 and the Cape Coral Police Department's "Do The Right Thing" program.

Parents can pick up a nomination form at the Cape Coral Police Department’s lobby to nominate their child.

The child must be in grade Kindergarten through 12th grade.
