LEE COUNTY, Fla.-- People living in Bonita Springs are putting pressure on city council to officially lift a ban, which is keeping medical marijuana dispensaries out of the city.
Mayor Peter Simmons raised eyebrows on Monday during the city council meeting, by calling dispensaries headshops.
The CEO of medical marijuana certifications centers in Florida says this claim is a mockery since a headshop is entirely different from a dispensary, and it won't dispense marijuana.
The mayor referred to medical marijuana as candy, "We can get lollipops, we can get the chocolate brownies, whatever they are, whatever form they come in, we can figure it out."
Council members say they need more time to do research on medical marijuana dispensaries because for the past year, they were waiting for the state legislature to decide what to do.
The council will make their final decision on March 21, 2018.
