Boater rescued during Water Tribe Everglades Challenge

The Coast Guard rescued a boater after his sailboat capsized off Sanibel Island, Saturday.

Guards responded to a call at 9 p.m. in regards to a boater's 20-foot trimaran sailboat overturning during the Water Tribe Everglades Challenge.

The boater, Randy Smyth, 63, was located 12 miles south of Sanibel Island.

A 29-foot Response Boat Small-II boat-crew from Station Fort Myers Beach was launched, arrived on scene and rescued Smyth. There were no reported injuries.
