FORT MYERS, Fla. -- It’s been almost a year since Patricia Miller lost her son.
29-year-old Fort Myers Police officer Adam Jobbers-Miller was shot in the line of duty last July.
For the first time, we are hearing from his family and how they plan to honor his memory.
His mother, Patricia Miller said they are holding a 3-day blood drive to honor his sacrifice and service.
“I know my son is watching down on us and thanking us for doing this for him because all he wanted to do is serve the community and this is a way he can keep doing it,” said Miller.
Officer Jobbers-Miller was shot in the line of duty and died a week later at Lee Memorial Hospital on July 28, 2018.
“While Adam was hospitalized, hundreds if not thousands in our community came forward to donate blood in an incredible show support,” said Chief Derrick Diggs of the Fort Myers Police Department.
Officer Jobbers-Miller was with the Fort Myers Police Department for 3 years.
The family has teamed up with FMPD and Lee Health to host the blood drive to help save lives.
“I think everybody needs to give blood, I know this is a hard time,” said Miller.
The blood drive kicked off Monday morning outside Lee Memorial with a flag raising ceremony.
Several officers showed up to give blood in honor of their fallen brother.
“I know this is important to him so keep it going. Save someone else just because we couldn’t save him,” said Miller.
If you would like to participate, the blood drive will be held Tuesday outside Lee Memorial hospital from 9AM to 3PM. Then on Wednesday, the blood drive will take place at the Fort Myers Police Department.
