LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Alliance for the Arts is making sure Southwest Florida knows 'Art Lives Here' by displaying local artists work on billboards across Lee County.

David Acevedo is one of nine artists chosen to have their art displayed on billboards throughout Lee County.

“Surprised first of all, and I’m very flattered, I’m humbled by the opportunity,” said David Acevedo, Visual Artist.

His painting 'Neighboring Towns' represents, “Community family, memories of their childhood,” said Acevedo.

The goal is to, “bring art to your daily commute or when you are running errands, you don’t have to go to a gallery to enjoy these things or to be inspired, art is everywhere,” said Desiree Demolina, Communications Manager, Alliance for the Arts.

The latest study shows art is a $140 million dollar industry in Lee County, supporting more than 3,800 jobs, and generates almost $19 million dollars in local and state government revenue.

"This shows that the arts and cultural organizations are a significant part of those revenue drivers as well,” said Brandi Couse, Assistant Director, Alliance for the Arts.

One billboard on Gladiolus in Fort Myers is already showcasing the pieces and the rest, “to be announced, it’s kind of a little scavenger hunt that we get to all drive around and see,” said Demolina.
