COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Collier County deputies say the bald eagle they helped rescue over the weekend has died.

On Sunday, a driver accidentally struck the bird which then jumped into a nearby canal and emerged on the other side.

The accident happened at 957 and 3rd Street Southwest.

A deputy along with Fish and Wildlife captured the eagle and took it to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida for treatment.

Today, deputies learned the animal did not survive.
