Arrest made in North Port killing

Posted

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – North Port Police have arrested a man they say was involved in the shooting death of a man, and investigators say there is still someone on the loose.

When this story broke last week, police told Fox 4 they were looking for two masked gunmen.  We don't know if that number has changed, and police haven’t specified how many people are involved, but we do know they are seeking more information to find at least one other person involved.

We now know one man is behind bars, who police say is connected to the crime.

Police have arrested 21-year-old Dontae Lamar Stanley, Jr. from Sarasota County.  He is facing charges including homicide and an armed home invasion robbery.

Police say Stanley was involved in the shooting death of 19-year-old Trent Bartol-Thomas.  It happened last week inside a home along Porto Chico Avenue in North Port.

Neighbors say it is a relatively quiet area, so they were shocked to wake up to an active crime scene.

Detectives interviewed about 10 witnesses who were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
