ESTERO, Fla. -- Lee County Sheriff's Office hosted an active shooter training session at Germain Arena, Wednesday. The goal is to get both officers and civilians engaged in best practices to keep the community safe.

“We need to have the public’s buy in and make sure we educate them and they work with us as a team," said Carmine Marceno, Lee County Undersheriff.

The session comes with full gear such as vests, protective eyewear and guns loaded with training bullets that won't harm others. It is meant to be as realistic as possible.

The next active training shooting will be for faith-based institutions at McGregor Baptist Church on December 20th. If you or someone you know are looking to participate you can register by calling the Lee County Sheriff’s office at 239- 258-3287 or email
