Abandoned dog rescued by Cape Coral officer

Despite being left with nothing but a bug infested bowl of food, an abandoned dog was delighted to see a Cape Coral Police officer who came to rescue him on July 3rd.

The dog had been chained to a shed behind a home for several days, with no water and tethered to a choker.  Both the dog's ears were infected and he had a cut on his leg.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services also arrived on scene and tried unsuccessfully to locate the dog's owner.

The officer completed the necessary paperwork to adopt the dog, then took him to the vet for his injuries.  He named the dog Shamus.
