FORT MYERS, Fla -- If you’ve looked at gas prices lately, you may have noticed, it’s looking pretty good right now if you’re on the road a lot. One gas station is looking to keep it cheap, at least for a few hours, 76 Gas Station in Fort Myers, held it's grand opening today and sold 0.76 cent gas for a few hours to customers.

Cars were lined up for blocks to get the 0.76 cent deal. One of those customers was 85 year old, Cornelia Robinson, who showed up two hours early to the party.

"We were here at noon, it was close to noon when we got here, this is what I needed," said Robinson.

Even though that price didn't last for long, gas has actually been pretty cheap in SWFL, AAA says the average price for gas in Fort Myers is $2.44 per gallon. Just two months ago it was $2.76. AAA says the refineries actually have more gasoline this summer.

"That oversupply of gasoline is meeting that demand so that’s helping keep prices low," said AAA Spokesperson, Mark Jenkins.

Even with the cheap prices now, it might be a good idea to fill up soon. AAA says oil is three dollars a barrel right now, and with Iran shooting down a U.S.military drone recently that could drive those prices back up.

"The mere concern of military conflict can cause those prices to rise. that’s what we’re seeing right now," Jenkins said.
