7 people injured and one fatality in serious crash on State Road 80 Tuesday

Saijah Stone, 16 who was previously listed as critically injured has succumbed to her injuries.

A crash involving two vehicles containing several juveniles left eight people injured on State Road 80 on Tuesday.

It happened at 6:11 p.m. at the intersection with Joel Boulevard in the Alva community.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a car headed westbound on S.R. 80 made a left turn toward Joel Boulevard as an eastbound SUV was proceeding through the intersection. The SUV hit the right side of the car, causing the SUV to roll over.

One passenger in the car, 16-year-old Saijah Stone, was critically injured. Two other passengers, a 14-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, were also seriously injured. The driver, 39-year-old Christina Darling, had minor injury.

All four were taken to Lee Memorial.

In the SUV, all four occupants sustained minor injuries and were treated at Lee Memorial. They include the 59-year-old driver and passengers aged 18, 10, and 8.

The car's driver was cited for failure to yield.
