LEE COUNTY, Fla.-- This week, students from across the state will be competing at the State and Engineering fair, in Lakeland.

Dahlia Dry, a junior at Fort Myers High School, is one of the handful of students competing and giving a speech at the opening ceremony.

Dahlia started her research project during her sophomore year. She wanted to teach herself how to code so she could analyze local weather data and predict optimal conditions for sailing, which is one of her passions.

She is a two-time best of fair physical science winner. She also traveled to the state science fair last year, where she received a third place award in the mathematics and computational sciences category.

Dahlia also represented the Kiwanis science fair as an international science fair finalist in Los Angeles, where she got two awards.

She will give her speech at the fair on Tuesday, March 27 at 7:30 at night. It will be broadcast live on the Thomas A. Edison Regional Science and Inventors Fair Twitter page
