COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. --- Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS) hosted Home for the Holidays finding homes for homeless animals.

The event which was held December 9th through the 10th was a 33 hour adoption event with 51 pets being adopted.

“The adopt-a-thon was a successful event, and everyone at DAS is happy that 51 pets found their home for the holidays,” said DAS Director Darcy Andrade. “

Some of the pets adopted included cats, dogs, ferrets and guinea pigs.

Officials at DAS say that they have extended the discounts on adoptions until December 31st because of the success the event has had.

"Even with 51 animals being placed into homes, there are still quite a few animals at the shelter, which is why we are extending the adoption promotion until the end of December,” Andrade added.

Adoptions include spay and neuter surgery, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations and more.
