NORTH PORT - Police said almost a dozen cars in North Port were shot-up with a BB gun, causing thousands of dollars in damages.
11 victims went to police, demanding that someone be held responsible for the expensive body work they now need to get done to their cars.
According to North Port Police, the rampage happened over the span of a few nights, April 2 through 5 between 8 PM and 6:30 AM. It happened in and around Tropicaire and Ponce de Leon Boulevards.
“It only takes one idiot or a couple people to cause a lot of mayhem,” said North Port Police Department spokesman Josh Taylor. “Caused a pretty significant amount of damage, upwards of $11,000."
Two victims have spoken out about what happened.
Victor Rath said he loves his car with a passion so when he came out to see his car with several marks from a BB gun, he was very upset.
“I was pissed and I was tearing up a little bit,” Rath said. “Why are they ruining other people's property? I worked so hard to get this car,” he said.
Meanwhile, Allen Johnson said his SUV is in the shop after BBs were shot at his vehicle. The damage will cost him nearly $800 out of pocket.
“It is crazy to think that many people are affected by this. I hope it gets rectified,” Johnson said.
Right now, police are asking people in the area to check their home surveillance cameras for suspicious activity. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police.
