UPDATE 5/30 8:15 A.M:
The Florida Highway Patrol reports the driver, Arlin Magali Monroy Salazar, is arrested for no driver’s license and booked into the Charlotte County Jail.
They believe the driver was going south on Easy Street, approaching the intersection of Crestwood Drive, when a 12-year-old girl riding an electric scooter with a helmet entered the intersection in front of the driver.
ORIGINAL REPORTING 5/29:
Florida Highway Patrol says a child possibly on a scooter was injured in a crash in Port Charlotte.
The crash happened on Easy Street and the roadway was blocked off for some time. The accident occurred just a few streets north of US 41.
FHP says the juvenile was injured and was transported to a local hospital.
FOX 4 saw a gray van being towed from the scene.
Witnesses tell FOX 4 a woman was driving the van. They say she was driving around a corner when she struck the child on the scooter.
Witnesses say one man left the passenger seat of the gray van and ran.
A neighbor who was checking her mail at the time ran to the girl and called 911.
She said the child was unconscious but was wearing a helmet.
Right now FHP says it is all still under investigation.
