If you thought it's been a warm Winter and Spring here in Florida, then you are right!
According to the National Center for Environmental Information, the average temperature for the first four months of this year was 66.6 degrees. That's the warmest since record keeping began back in 1895.
Florida wasn't the only state that was above average. From the Desert Southwest thought the Mid-Atlantic, average temperatures from January through April were record breaking. In fact, 40 states were above average through April.
According to a climatologist from National Weather Service, it was a February heat wave that pushed the temperatures so high. He also says that if an El Nino does form this summer, 2017 could be very warm and well above average.
The warmer than average weather in combination with dry conditions are also leading to high fire danger. Currently, there are more than 100 active wildfires impacting the state.
The rainy season starts at the end of the month. It could not come soon enough since parts of the state are under severe drought.
