FORT MYERS, Fla— Florida is still in rainy season but the recent dry conditions are more favorable for brush fires similar to the one in the Gateway area Wednesday.
Firefighters said wind was a big factor as they battled the fire. Southwest Florida will continue to see gusty conditions continue Thursday. Gusts coming from the east-northeast could reach up to 20 mph. This is something that could help fires spread faster.
Thankfully, the drought indices showed conditions were promising for our area with abnormally dry conditions concentrated mainly in northern Florida. The Florida Forest Service did note we are at a moderate risk on their Fire Danger Index Map.
The site also stated there are no burn bans in place for Southwest Florida, yet everyone should still be cautious of any flames or sparks around their home.
