Hurricane Special: FPL's power restoration plan

Everybody's number one question when the power goes out is of course: when will it be back on?  Well Florida Power and Light is on top of that and has crews ready to go.

"Well hurricanes are powerful forces of nature and we understand that there may be power outages.  So our commitment is to restore power safely and as quickly as possible to our customers," says FPL spokesperson Florencia Contesse.

You may be thinking that sounds good, but what does it mean?  First they start with repairing transmission and substations, which are critical in getting energy to you.  Then they move on to the main power lines serving hospitals, police, and fire stations while simultaneously focusing on the largest number of customers, including grocery stores and gas stations.  All the necessities that our community will need to get back up running after a storm.

And since FPL works year round to strengthen their lines and improve technology, they are ready to get your lights on when the time comes.

And remember if you do see any downed power lines to stay away from them.  You should report it immediately by calling 911 or by dialing 1-800-4-OUTAGE.
