Florida Power and Light prepared for severe weather

Florida Power and Light Restoration Plan

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- Florida Power and Light is doing its best to make sure they are prepared to protect you in a storm.  And this year they are using new technology.

Each and every year, FPL is working hard so that you and your family are safe. And most importantly, keeping the power on here during recent drills.

FPL has new equipment that they’re deploying during hurricane season. They're testing it to be sure it's usable for hurricane season, which started June 1st.

One of the actual sites that the equipment will be brought to is areas like the fairgrounds to make sure they're deploying those resources to where they need to be. And in some of the hardest hit areas, they're actually bringing mobile command centers with power outlets outside, so that if you have your cell phone, and it's losing power and you need a boost, you can do it right there.

Some of the new drone technology will be used to find where there is no power. This new technology is part of the $3 billion that was invested by FPL during Hurricane Matthew, where more than a million customers lost power.  They tell us within two full days, 99% of customers had power restored.
