Charlotte County announces school schedule changes after Hurricane Irma

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- School officials in Charlotte County have announced their plan to make up for missed school days due to Hurricane Irma.

According to Superintendent Steve Dionisio, a total of 7 school days were missed by students due to the storm.

Up to two days can be waived this school year, according to the Florida Commissioner of Education.

Three dates designated as hurricane makeup days will now be changed to regular school days: the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving (November 20 & 21), and May 25.

The remaining two days will be covered by additional minutes built into the current school calendar.

Lee County and Collier County each announced their makeup plans earlier this month.
