LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Thousands of people are without power and areas are still seeing some serious flooding after Tropical Depression Barry. Now, Volunteers from Southwest Florida are set to help with recovery efforts.
American Red Cross said they've deployed 20 volunteers from South Florida to Louisiana, with two of those volunteers coming from Southwest Florida.
Volunteers assessing ongoing needs in the region as they look to help those impacted by Barry.
Once they're sure everyone who lost their home has a roof over their head, the next step will be helping with damage assessment and distribution of emergency supplies.
In the wake of the storm, flooding is a major concern throughout the state.
People in Louisiana are worried that the constant rain could lead to even more flooding so state officials are urging people to be cautious because more rain is on the way.
If the need is still there, Red Cross officials said more volunteers from our area will be deployed to Louisiana.
As for the salvation army, officials said they have not been called yet to send a team up from Southwest Florida.
But they said they are ready to go at a moment’s notice. They have trained disaster volunteers prepared to meet the immediate needs of survivors and first responders.
