LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- One of the few remaining counties in the area that had not enacted a county-wide burn ban has now approved an emergency resolution banning unnecessary burns.
Lee County commissioners unanimously voted in favor of the burn ban Tuesday.
The temporary 7-day executive order prohibits outdoor burning, including campfires, bonfires, trash burning, and other open burning. The declaration will be revisited to 7 days and extended if necessary.
The resolution includes a land within the county, not just unincorporated areas of the county. The cities of Fort Myers and Cape Coral had already issued burn bans within city limits, and this resolution supercedes those.
All surrounding counties had also implemented burn bans last moth, including Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades counties.
Governor Rick Scott declared the entire state of Florida under a State of Emergency on April 11, due to the large number of wildfires across the state.
