Residents evacuated due to brush fire

Plumes of smoke can be seen as crews battle wildfire flames in North Fort Myers.

The fire started shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Dozens of people who live between Southeast 13th and 15th Streets were forced to evacuate their home.

Officials say up to 5 acres of forestry burned right in the backyards of residents living in the area. The wind causing flames to spread quickly.

It's still unclear how the fire started, but officials say the dry conditions could have played a role.

At this time the fire is 100% contained but fire crews are still on site putting out hot spots.

The Red Cross is providing housing to anyone who does not feel safe returning back to their homes.
