42 million people in the United States are enrolled in Medicare Part D – the prescription drug program for seniors. Some experts estimate that as many as 80 percent of seniors may choose to stay in a Part D plan that doesn’t match their needs, despite studies that find they could save money and improve their coverage by doing so. Uniquely, 2018 brings additional risk, as all Medicare drug coverage recipients will be receiving new membership cards from Medicare to help reduce the risk of identity theft – ironically, bringing with it an increase in Medicare scams preying on retirees.
