Each year, millions of wild animals are captured from their habitats or born into captivity, to be sold in the exotic pet trade. But our houses and backyards are no home for a wild animal. It’s only in their natural environment that they can live full lives, free of the deprivation inherent with captivity. Whether snakes, parrots, iguanas, tortoises, and even otters – no wild animal can have its needs entirely met when kept as a pet.
Cassandra Koenen, Head of World Animal Protection, is available to discuss which animals are suitable as pets, and why people looking to adopt a pet should always choose domesticated animals in need of homes, and appreciate and respect wild animals where they belong: in the wild!
