New Southwest Florida studio boasts dance and diversity

A new dance studio in Fort Myers celebrates diversity through style and movement.

Originally, Residance hosted “pop up” classes around the Southwest Florida area.

It is now found a home inside of the Edison Mall.

The low-lighting, modern-day dance studio welcomes instructors from all over the world - teaching dance styles ranging from Latin to hip hop.

The studio’s focus doesn’t include technique.

Instead, they use choreography-based instruction. Students learn movement to select music styles, and capture them in a video at the end of the class.

One student shared that this style helped her to document her progress, and for owner Ivana Quesada, that is part of the goal.

“We wanted to be able to create a safe space for people to come and build a community and dance without the pressure of having to become a professional”, she tells FOX 4.
