FORT MERS, Fla. — The Lee County Housing Development Corporation and the Affordable Homeownership Foundation have teamed up with the Lee County Bar Association to provide education and outreach to tenants, landlords, realtors, and homeowners amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Outreach will be held Dec. 19, from 10 am to 1 pm, at the STARS Complex, 2980 Edison Ave., in Fort Myers.
The initiative is designed to help provide education and legal resources to persons impacted by the recent pandemic regarding provisions provided by the CDC Moratorium.
For the first time since April, when businesses were forced to close down, Lee County residents may be without statewide protections against evictions and foreclosures.
These protections are set to end unless current legislation is extended beyond the Dec. 31 deadline.
Services available include:
· Housing assistance resources (financial assistance payments)
· Housing counseling (eviction prevention, housing search)
· Legal Resources (consultation, mediation, etc.)
Currently, LCHDC and AHF serve more than 500 families throughout Lee County. Housing counseling services include:
· Mortgage delinquency and default resolution
· Rental housing counseling/pre-purchase counseling
· Financial management
· Homebuyer education workshops
· Delinquency post-purchase workshops
· Home Improvement and rehabilitation counseling
· Fair housing training and outreach
· Predatory lending workshops
· Resolving mortgage delinquency/foreclosure prevention
Housing counseling agencies serve as a catalyst for increasing access to safe, affordable housing, and helping develop, preserve and revitalize communities through affordable housing.
