There’s no denying the coronavirus pandemic has hit many businesses pretty hard, with retail stores, salons, gyms and local restaurants losing customers and money.

If you’re missing heading out to your favorite local diner — the ones that know your name and order before you even sit down — or are worried about their financial future, you’ll want to know about the initiative Heinz is launching aimed and helping these neighborhood eateries. They’re also asking for your help to find the diners in need.

Heinz is offering $2,000 grants to help cover rent and operating costs for 500 qualifying diners — which adds up to $1 million from the condiment-maker. Now through May 31, you can nominate your favorite local spot that needs extra help by visiting Heinz’s website for a one-time, no-strings-attached check.

If you are the owner of a diner and in need of help, you can also nominate yourself to receive the grant. The nominator must submit the name, address, phone number and digital location (Yelp review link or diner website address) for the diner, along with a valid email address for the nominator.

There is a limit of one entry per email address, so you cannot nominate multiple restaurants. Each winning diner can only receive one $2,000 grant, so even if the same place is nominated multiple times by different people, they can only win once. You can read the full terms and conditions on Heinz’ website.

“For decades, diners’ doors have been open to all of us,” Dalia Adler, brand building lead for Heinz, said in a press release. “At a time where every bit counts, we want to do what we can to help take care of these special places that are so much more to our families than just a restaurant.”

Do you have a favorite local spot that could use some financial help during these trying times?
