Patient claims Health Department wouldn't test her for Zika

FORT MYERS, FL. -- On Monday, when a patient walked in to Dr. Mark Schneider's office physically fatigued, Mark felt the patient was showing symptoms of the Zika virus. "She described that she was having a headache, a neck ache, and feeling flu like symptoms.

And the patient, who wanted to conceal their identity said she'd been feeling bad after returning to Fort Myers from her vacation in Key West. "I woke up feeling run down, sore throat, like someone had just hit me with baseball bats. I vividly remember being bit on the hand when we were walking down the street in Key West."

That's when Dr. Schneider reached out to his office staff. "I asked my office manager to contact the CDC and see if there was a way to get her tested."

After tracking down the CDC, the patient was told to contact the Lee County Health Department. Now she's telling FOX 4 that the Lee County Health Department refused to test her for the Zika virus.
