SANIBEL, Fla. -- Injured eaglet E8 has been recovering from leg injuries at a Sanibel wildlife rehab for nearly three months. Now he's working hard on brushing up on those fish-catching skills.
E8, a resident of the nest featured in the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam, was brought into the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife back in May after being injured in a fight with another bird.
Since then, we've been following his progress from taking antibiotics, to standing on his own, to flying in his outdoor enclosure. Now he has a new task to learn.
Staff at CROW have installed a small fish pond in the enclosure that's giving E8 a chance to catch his own live prey. Apparently he's had no luck yet, but staff gives him an A+ for effort.
They say this stage also provides enrichment and exercise during this long recovery process.
