CAPE CORAL, Fla.-- An experimental algae canal clean-up method is working. Cape Coral-based Ecological Laboratories is using microbes to eat and breakdown the algae.

During a progress report meeting, the company shared their results with people living in the city, and Mayor, Joe Coviello. However, the people behind, Ecological Laboratories says the real problem with fighting the algae is not just physical, but political too.

"I'm aware that the DEP [Department of Environmental Protection] was taking proposals since 2017 for a solution from anyone that had one to offer," said Debbie Hall. "I think it was just to placate people because they haven't done a thing."

Since the company started the Cabot Canal study, their microbes have reduced the algae in the canal significantly.
