CAPE CORAL, Fla.-- The City of Cape Coral is partnering with Vertex Water Features to fight the on-going water quality issues in our area.

On Monday, the company started installing an airgate bubble curtain across the mouth of the Mandolin canal at no cost to the city.

The system is designed to create a wall of bubbles across the canal, and block any cyanobacteria from entering the canals.

Mayor Joe Coviello says the water may look like it's getting better, but they are still looking for systems to prevent a water quality crisis in the future.

"You know this might be an issue we have next year. Now we have their trial basis with this company that could help us mitigate that, especially in times of large releases coming out of Lake O," said Coviello.

The installation period will last 3 weeks. City leaders will discuss future plans about the bubble curtain once they get all of the results.
