Dangerous Thanksgiving dishes for your pet

Posted
CAPE CORAL, FLA.- With turkey day just around the corner, you may have started preparing for the big meal, but there's a member of your family you need to keep in mind this holiday season: your pet!

Certain foods, that we love to celebrate the day with, can be dangerous for your dog or cat, even deadly.

Dr. Sharon Lomnicki sees more pets the day after Thanksgiving than any other day of the year.

"You have to be conscious of what you're offering them, because animals don't react to foods the same way that humans do."

Here's a list of foods to look out for:

-Onions and garlic, they're toxic to dogs.
-Nuts that you might put in casseroles or dessert, big no-no. Walnuts and macadamia nuts can lead to deadly shock.
-Nutmeg, a key spice in your pumpkin pie, it can cause seizures and problems in the central nervous system.
-Stuffing, often times sage is in stuffing and that's toxic to cats.
-Turkey skin, it's not good to feed your pet.
-Chocolate is commonly known as dangerous, but other sweets cause problems too. Raw cookie dough, and even bread dough, can be very dangerous.
