CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- About 40 children from Cape Coral had the opportunity to participate in the "Shop with a Cop" program that the Cape Coral Police Department participates in with Walmart, the shopping center.
Applicants from underprivileged families were chosen to meet with police officers on Dec. 21st to buy presents for themselves and their families with a Walmart gift card. "This is my first time doing something like this and I'm so excited because I got the best cop ever!" expressed David Villegas, aged 10.
The gift cards come from donations and Walmart's generosity. Each child received around $100-150.
Cape Coral Police Chief Bart Connelly says interacting with these kids at a young age is important for relations with law enforcement, "It shows them, don't be scared of the uniform. We are their friends. We're there to help them."
