FORT MYERS, Fla.- 17-year-old Yariza Herrera left court Tuesday sentenced with probation after being found guilty of killing 27-year-old Evan Shepard in a hit and run collision in January 2015. Herrera didn't have a license when the accident happened.
Herrera abandoned the car, leaving Evan Shepard for dead at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Palm Avenue.
A Facebook message to Evan's sister helped lead to who was responsible for the death of her brother.
Police finally arrested Herrera six months after the incident.
Herrera will be placed on probation and will have to comply with drug tests, random searches and a curfew until she is 19-years-old. She will also have to wear an ankle bracelet for the next few months.
Evan's family says they feel no remorse toward Herrera.
