FORT MYERS, Fla.- Law enforcement all across Southwest Florida are upping patrols to keep you safe this holiday season.
Lt. Victor Medico with the Fort Myers Police Department said consumers are easy targets during the holiday shopping season but some common sense could protect you. He said shoppers need to make sure they hide shopping bags, make sure to lock doors and don't flash your cash.
"Some shoppers they go to a store, they buy some stuff they don't want to carry it around while they go to another venue and they leave it out in view and they park at another location and that's an easy target for a criminal walking by," Lt. Medico said.
Lt. Medico said there is also an increase in traffic crashes during the holidays.
"Kids are out of school during a lot of these holidays they're in the parking lots with their parents. Take that extra time drive a little slower," Lt. Medico said.
If battling Black Friday crowds isn't your thing, police suggest online shopping as an alternative but they want you to be aware of some risks.
"Having proper security, firewalls and virus protection. Not sharing your password," Lt. Medico said.
