LEE COUNTY, FLA -- Lee County's Superintendent clearing the air after an investigation cleared all school district employees of any wrong- doing in connection with a cheating scandal involving a GED test at Dunbar Community School.
The district hired an attorney to investigate how the staff handled the April scandal, which took place days before the school's Principal, Charles Daley, resigned. Former superintendent Dr. Nancy Graham also abruptly resigned while being accused of trying to cover up the scandal.
Current superintendent Dr. Greg Atkins says a stalled investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct by any Lee County School District employees was re-started in the hopes of clearing up whether anyone involved still works for the district.
Dr. Atkins says, "The report did indicate that there were serious violations of board policy... nothing to do with the G-E-D testing situation."
That situation was brought to light after employees said they saw a test proctor using a cell phone while the mother of principal Charles Daily's grandson was taking a GED test- a violation of policy. Daily resigned soon after, but Atkins says he did so for other
reasons.
"I can't be specific. The reason I can't be specific is there's confidentiality as it relates to medical records and worker's compensation records and so forth."
Also unclear is why former superintendent Nancy Graham resigned last fall, after board member Jeanne Dozier faulted her for not communicating to the board information about Daily's resignation.
Superintendent Atkins says any improprieties involving that testing scandal only involved employees no longer with the school district.
