SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies say a North Port man is lucky to be alive after fleeing from police at speeds of over 100 miles per hour on his motorcycle. And the whole trip was recorded on his own helmet cam.
20-year-old Sergey Baygulov is facing charges of Fleeing to Elude and Operating an Unregistered Vehicle after the chase on April 7th.
Drivers had been reporting a motorcyclist consistently weaving through traffic every morning on 2-lane River Road in Sarasota County. That morning, deputies witnessed Baygulov driving recklessly and attempted to stop him. He then fled at high speed until arriving at his place of employment, where he was arrested.
Investigators have now released the seized GoPro video recorded on Baygulov's helmet cam during the chase, which shows him weaving dangerously between vehicles, including a school bus.
“This is a frightening trend,” said Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight. “If these motorcycle crashes aren’t waking people up, I don’t know what will. The impact of a bike traveling at these speeds is deadly for the motorist and anyone or anything they come into contact with. As for the thrill seekers, they should know this behavior is not tolerated in Sarasota County.”
The investigation is ongoing, however at this time Baygulov is not facing any additional criminal charges.
