POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Officials say a possible tornado picked up a southbound vehicle on Florida's Turnpike and dropped it in the northbound lanes.

Broward Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles says one person was injured Wednesday morning. He says the southbound lanes of the turnpike north of Fort Lauderdale were closed. Jachles said he didn't know how many vehicles were overturned.

Henry Cabrera of the Coconut Creek police says at least six cars were tossed around a parking lot at Broward College.

Officials also say a nearby condominium complex had roof damage.

College officials emailed students at the north campus, advising them to take precautions because of severe weather. The turnpike is near the campus.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties earlier Wednesday.
