SARASOTA, Fla. -- Troopers say a pedestrian was laying in the road when they were hit and killed in Sarasota Tuesday night.

The crash happened at 10:45 p.m. at the Clark Road exit (#205).

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was laying down "partially within the center and outside lane" when a southbound car approached and struck the person.

The car immediately pulled over. Neither of the two occupants in the car were injured.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers have not released their identity yet.

It's not clear at this time why the pedestrian was in the road.

The roadway was closed for several hours overnight while an investigation was launched.  Drivers were routed off at the Clark Road exit but allowed to re-enter the interstate via the on-ramp.
