FORT MYERS, Fla-- A late winter snowstorm in the northeast has caused thousands of flight delays and cancelations around the country. At Southwest Florida International Airport, most of the affected flights are heading to or from the Northeast.

Dozens of passengers were left scrambling to find hotel rooms in the area after flights were canceled starting Monday.

Tony and Janet Amaro are from New Jersey and said they've spent an extra $1000 after getting stuck in Southwest Florida. The hotel they originally were staying at was sold out when they tried going back to get a room. Luckily, they were able to find another hotel down the road with availability. However, some visitors are not so lucky and are stuck waiting at the airport.
