TAMPA-- The University of South Florida's head football coach was given a dressing-down in a courtroom Wednesday.
Judge Margaret Taylor, who's also a USF graduate, chided head coach Charlie Strong, after a second player on his team was arrested on felony charges.
"Coach strong, if you are listening, in the last couple of months there have been two arrests of your players in very violent felonies,” said Judge Margaret Taylor.
“This court, and I'm sure I'm not alone, questions whether you have control over your players. It's fairly clear you don't have control over them off the field, and i guess only time will tell whether you have control over them on the field. I would implore you to think long and hard about whether being head coach at USF is a good fit for you."
The judge spoke as USF defensive end Ladarrius Jackson faced charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment.
It's Strong's second arrested player in his six months as head coach. In March, 22 year-old Hassan Childs was charged with three counts of aggravated assault.
Strong has since kicked Childs off the team.
Coach Strong later issued a statement, saying he is shocked by recent arrests, but his program is dedicated to recruit players of high character.
