UPDATE 11:51 a.m.:

President Trump is currently speaking at a roundtable at the newly built detention center in Ochopee.

He landed around 10 a.m. and took a tour of the facility with Gov. Ron DeSantis, US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and Executive Director for the Florida Division of Emergency Management Kevin Guthrie.

Congressman Byron Donalds and Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier are also in attendance.

The first detainee is expected to be at the facility on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, outside the gates, people against the facility are protesting, many telling Fox 4 it will impact the Everglades.

The Everglades Jetport, proposed in the 1960s, was intended to be the largest airport in the world — about five times the size of New York’s JFK. The project was halted in the 1970s due to environmental and logistical concerns, and only one airstrip was ever constructed, which still stands today.
