THE VILLAGES, Fla. --- Governor Rick Scott awarding veterans with the Governor's Veterans Service Medal on Monday.
The Governor's Veterans Service Medal honors veterans for their service to the state and the nation.
The governor also signed HB 29, which will increase opportunities and reduce fees for Florida military, veterans and their families.
Governor Scott also highlighting the $180 million in total funding to support Florida's active military, veterans and their families in his Securing Florida's Future budget. Since 2013, Governor Scott has awarded nearly 14,000 veterans with the Governor's Veterans Service Medal.
The following Florida veterans were highlighted during today's ceremony:
Command Sergeant Major James McKinney, who enlisted in the Army in 1968 and trained as a Field Artilleryman at Fort Sill.
First Lieutenant Raquel Ellington, who joined the United States Women's Army Corps in Puerto Rico in May of 1969.
