SANFORD, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend's dog by slamming it against a wall.
On Monday 42-year-old Jan Cornel Henry Jr. was sentenced to 3 years in prison for animal cruelty.
The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2ejtCpy ) reports Henry was arrested March 6 and his girlfriend called 911 screaming "he's killing my dog." A deputy found the dog wedged under Henry's couch with its head at an odd angle. The dog was dead.
Prosecutors say the couple had argued. The girlfriend told investigators she was trying to leave but Henry wouldn't surrender her dog.
Henry was given a mental evaluation but a psychologist found him competent to stand trial.
